To say the playoffs were a disappointment last season were a disappointment. After going to the Conference Finals in 2016, Masai Ujiuri loaded up at the trade deadline by adding Serge Ibaka and PJ Tucker. However, Toronto flamed out in the second round as they were swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

This summer Toronto lost two key players in Tucker and Patrick Patterson, but Ibaka and Kyle Lowry returned because they wanted redemption after how the playoffs unfolded.
